This is great for your first portrait. The proportions look good and you really captured his likeness, which is the hardest thing about portraiture. A tip that might help would be to widen your range of values. Portraits come to life and become dimensional when there is a range between dark, medium, and light tones. Don’t Mistake My Silence As Compliance T-Shirt This portrait has light and medium tones – if you make your darkest shadows darker, your highlights will stand out more. Leave some of the medium tones as transitional shades between your darkest darks and lightest lights.

Also, be mindful of the materials you choose. Correct me if I’m wrong, Don’t Mistake My Silence As Compliance T-Shirt but is this pencil on canvas? Canvas isn’t necessarily meant for pencil, and I’d worry that the pencil may fade over time/rub off the surface easily. Pencil works best on drawing paper, and you can always get a nice frame for displaying it.You can also get drawing pencils that have specific pencils for ranged in values. Windsor and Newton is a good brand. They have the 8B 6B 4B indications of values on there to help. You can also erase to add highlights too. Needed erasers work well

Not in your drawing, though. It’s a nice drawing you should be proud. You’ve got it! I would encourage experimenting with brush and ink, maybe. You can have a few bottles with different gradients. It would help with areas that have large swathes of tone — the suit, hair, shadows on face, etc. Start a new piece though if you do. Because this one’s fine. but it’s a good piece! First portrait?? Wow!Don’t Mistake My Silence As Compliance T-Shirt I think it looks great for a first portrait! I kinda like the sketchy style, especially when it comes to the hair. I think you’ve got a lot of potential in your future to be a portrait artist.
