I was accused of being a lesbian when I gave a girl in high school a long hug. Yeah, it’s definitely not perfect in all schools, sadly. Schools in more progressive areas are probably more likely to be like in the post. However there are still kids who call each other gay as an insult without even knowing what the word means. Personally I think earlier education about LGBTQ+ people is key to bringing about that change. Kids won’t understand why it’s wrong to use it as an insult unless they fully understand what it means and why there’s nothing wrong with it.

Yeah in progressive areas it’s still not the best, I’m a student in this fucking stupid private all male school and they’ve got gay posters up all over the place and like 2 LGBTQIA+ clubs and people are still throwing gay around like a dodgeball. 3rd Grade Squad Third Teacher Student Team Back To School T-Shirt Had to sit in front of a group on a bus where one of them unironically asked “do you reckon gay people actually like guys or are just looking for attention” I’m sure it’s better in other places (I’m in the UK which can be pretty bad sometimes, tho not as bad as some places) but I’m supposed to be in the progressive area and hardly any of the students are progressive
